Tea App Safety Breach—72,000 Women's Data Exposed

Women-only dating safety app 'Tea' compromised, leaking images and messages

In July 2025, Tea Dating Advice—an app launched in 2023 by Sean Cook offering anonymous reviews to help women vet dates—suffered a catastrophic breach. A legacy Firebase storage bucket was misconfigured, exposing ~72,000 images (including 13,000 selfies and gov-issued IDs) and around 59,000 in-app photos. A follow-up breach revealed over 1.1 million private messages discussing deeply personal topics. Leaked data was shared on 4chan, sparking legal action, class-action lawsuits, and widespread criticism over security negligence.
